Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 integration connects your firm's Office documents, Outlook email, and Outlook calendar to Clasp. Edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files directly in your browser, sync your inbox to matters, and keep calendars up to date—all without leaving the Claspworkspace.

Document editing

Clasp Drive opens Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in your browser using Office for the Web. When you edit a document, changes save automatically back to the file in Clasp. Multiple firm users can edit the same document simultaneously, with real-time syncing.

Editing requires a Microsoft 365 work or school account with an Office web license. Personal Microsoft accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com) can view documents but cannot edit. When you open an Office file, choose Authenticate License to sign in with your work account, or Read only to view without editing.

Manage your connection in Settings→ Connected Accounts → Microsoft. For license requirements and troubleshooting, see Microsoft 365 licensing for document editing.

Outlook email sync

Connect your Outlook inbox to Clasp to view and manage email tied to specific matters. Emails sync to the relevant case workspace, making it easy to find past conversations by client, contact, or case.

To connect Outlook email, go to Settings → Connected Accounts → Outlook and click Add account. Sign in with your Microsoft work or school account and grant Clasp permission to access your email.

Outlook calendar sync

Sync your Outlook calendar to see events in Clasp and link them to matters. Calendar events appear in your Clasp calendar alongside firm-level and case-specific events.

To connect Outlook Calendar, go to Settings → Connected Accounts → Outlook Calendar and click Add account. After connecting, your Outlook events sync automatically.

For details on calendar features after connecting, see Using the Calendar.

Connecting your Microsoft account

Each Microsoft integration connects separately:

  • Microsoft 365 for document editing — Settings → Connected Accounts → Microsoft

  • Outlook email — Settings → Connected Accounts → Outlook

  • Outlook Calendar — Settings → Connected Accounts → Outlook Calendar

When you add an account, Clasp redirects you to Microsoft to sign in. After granting permission, you're returned to Clasp with the integration enabled. You can disconnect or reconnect accounts at any time from the same Connected Accounts page.

Firm-wide settings

Each user connects their own Microsoft account. There is no firm-wide Microsoft account—each team member authenticates individually with their work or school credentials.

Microsoft 365 editing is available on Clasp Business. Personal Microsoft accounts can view documents but cannot edit.

OneDrive import

Clasp Drive includes an option to import files from OneDrive during setup. Imported files are copied to Clasp Drive and do not sync back to OneDrive. You can import from OneDrive without connecting a Microsoft 365 license for editing.

For more on importing and organizing files, see Getting started with Clasp Drive and Create and upload documents.

Can I edit documents with a personal Microsoft account?

No. Document editing requires a Microsoft 365 work or school account with an Office web license. Personal accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com) can view documents but cannot edit.

Do my Clasp Drive files sync to OneDrive?

No. Files in Clasp Drive are stored in Clasp, not synced to OneDrive. OneDrive is used only for importing files during setup.

Can I use different Microsoft accounts for email and calendar?

Yes. Outlook email and Outlook Calendar connect separately, so you can use different accounts if needed.

What happens if my Microsoft connection expires?

If your license expires or your account is disconnected, you can still view documents in read-only mode. To restore editing, reconnect yourMicrosoft account from Settings → Connected Accounts.
