Trust Account Overview
Clasp includes a built-in trust accounting system that lets you manage client funds in compliance with IOLTA and ABA requirements. Trust account tools live on each case's Billing tab, in the global Billing area, and in Settings > Billing, so you can monitor and configure client funds from the contexts where you actually work.
Trust balance scope
Every case in Clasp has its own trust account record. You view and manage that balance on the case Billing tab. At the same time, Clasp tracks trust account balance per contact automatically and displays it on the contact record. If a client has multiple cases, each case keeps its own separate trust balance. Do not assume the contact-level balance is one global pool — it reflects activity across cases, but transactions, replenishment, and disbursements are always case-scoped.
How to create a Trust Request
From the case Billing tab, open the Trust Account panel and click New Trust Request. You can specify the amount and purpose before sending the request to the client. The client receives the request in their portal and can fund the case trust account from there.
Auto-replenishment and delay settings
Go to Settings > Billing to configure Trust Auto-Replenishment firm-wide. When this is on, Clasp automatically charges the client's stored payment method whenever a case trust balance drops below the Minimum Balance Threshold you set.
The Replenishment Delay setting controls how long Clasp waits before running that charge. Choose from 1 Week, 2 Weeks, 3 Weeks, or 1 Month. If no delay is selected, the system falls back to 7 days. Click Save Settings to apply your choices.
Trust Auto-Replenishment is configured in Settings > Billing, not on the case page. The case Billing tab shows the current balance and history, but the rules that govern when and how funds are replenished are managed centrally.
How Transfers work
Transfers are a record of money moving around inside your trust account.
Think of your trust account like a box that holds money for many clients at once. Even though it's one account, the money inside isn't all mixed together — each client's funds are kept separate, like having labeled envelopes inside the same box. A transfer is what happens when you move money from one envelope to another.
For example, if you need to shift funds from one client's portion to another, that's a transfer. Clasp logs every one of these moves so you always have a clear record of whose money is whose.
You can see all of your transfers in the Transfers sub-tab under global Billing. Each entry shows the date, amount, and direction, giving you a complete audit trail.
Always confirm your jurisdiction's specific trust accounting rules before configuring auto-replenishment or disbursements. Trust accounts in Clasp are designed to meet IOLTA and ABA compliance requirements, and funds held in trust are kept strictly separate from your firm's operating account.
