What Clients Can See and Do
The client portal gives clients a focused view of their case. They can only see what you explicitly share โ nothing else from your workspace is visible to them.
What clients can do in the portal
Clients with portal access can:
Access documents you've shared with them
Review and sign documents
Make payments
Send and receive messages with the firm
Billing in the portal
Clients with billing access see a Billing page in their portal. It shows the Trust Account balance, Invoices & trust requests, the Saved Payment Method, and Automatic Trust Replenishment. Billing access is on by default and is controlled per client through their portal access.
Invoices and payments
Clients review invoices and trust requests in the Billing page. Payable items show Pay now, and paid invoices show Download Receipt. Scheduled trust requests appear with the **Scheduled** status and do not show **Pay now**, while eligible outstanding requests show **Pay now** when payment conditions are met.
When a usable saved payment method is available, Pay now charges it directly. Otherwise the client is sent to the payment link. The action reports whether payment succeeded, was submitted for processing, or failed.
Automatic Trust Replenishment
Clients can enable or disable Automatic Trust Replenishment from Billing. Enabling requires a saved payment method and confirmation in the Enable AutoPay consent dialog.
The Billing page shows the replenishment state โ scheduled charge, paused, declined payment method, missing payment method, or a balance below or above the minimum โ including the scheduled amount and charge date when available. When an automatic replenishment request is fully paid, matching outstanding automatic replenishment requests for the same case and contact are removed from client-visible billing. Manually created trust requests are not affected.
What clients cannot see
Clients cannot see internal notes, tasks, other contacts on the case, or anything you have not explicitly shared with them. Your workspace remains fully private.
Note: All portal activity is recorded in the case timeline, so you always have a record of what the client has seen or done.
Tip: Share documents selectively from the case Documents tab โ not all uploaded files are automatically visible to the client.
